The Issue: School Supplies for Underserved Students In 2010, the National Retail Federation projected that the average family would spend $96.39 on school supplies that year. Yet more than half of the students enrolled in the Auburn School District qualify for free or reduced-price lunch according to a Washington State report card issued by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.
