Union Square can be quite the nightmare of tourists—thankfully, the upscale Clock Bar offers a welcome respite from the frantic scene outside. At the dark and inviting rosewood bar—matching the floor-to-ceiling wood paneling—cocktails such as the seasonal Three Piece Suit will relax even the most frazzled of patrons. The signature light columns with digital clock display frame the room, making the cozy little bar less film noir hideout and more speculative fiction hip (if such a thing exists). Of course, drinks aren’t the only things available, with the small but spot-on menu that includes treats like savory ahi tuna tartare or the perfect to-share mixed plate with it’s quinelle of rich duck rilette, slices of tender pork terrine, and selection of cheeses, including the beautiful Humboldt Fog goat cheese with its ribbon of ash in the middle. With nibbles and drinks such as these, Union Square is finally a destination for something other than shopping.
