Scout Notes: With Cibo e Beve, the 101 Concepts people haven't just made Roswell Road a little more hip—they've also proved that Italian dining needn't always come part-and-parcel with white tablecloths (and/or coloring books for the kids). Cibo's modern environs and innovative Italian menu have become a dining destination not just for the neighbors, but for any Atlantan who wants to partake in Chef Linda Harrell's authentic Italian fare (and perhaps a glass of wine or handcrafted cocktail) in an exciting, kinda swanky atmosphere. And if we can enjoy that kind of dining experience for lunch? Even better (and molto more delicious than the Lean Cuisine I've got stashed in the office freezer). Indeed, in case you can't get enough of Cibo in the evenings, the lunch service is equally stellar (and, psst, a great way to get your first taste of the restaurant if you haven't made it for dinner yet). Chef Linda's expert handling of fresh, organic ingredients and authentic Italian recipes can easily give any brown bag a run for its money. Lunch, Cibo-style, might mean an exquisite autumn caprese salad (with local mozzarella), a Caesar salad with a fried poached egg, or perhaps a robust panino stuffed with marinated roasted vegetables and balsamic. If, like me, you're preparing yourself for winter hibernation, a hearty plate of Chef Linda's rather infamous gorgonzola rigatoni with pistachio cream sauce or equally revered homemade meatballs is the perfect chilly-day lunch. You can't, of course, go wrong with the pizzas, made with top-notch ingredients (double zero flour, San Marzano tomatoes, and the like) and brought to life in Cibo's woodfired oven. And for maximum results, perhaps just add a bit of beve. (Trust, they've got plenty of that here.) After all, isn't it high time we bring back the power lunch?
