Upon first sauntering into Carter Vu Salon, we noticed that something was different from those salons we've become accustomed to. It felt less pretentious and more, well, neighborly. Don't get us wrong, there are still shiny vials of Moroccan Oil, GK Hair and Redken lining the walls. But Carter started his salon with the intention that he could become friends with his clients, and he has. When customers walk in the door, they're just as excited to catch up as they are about donning a new hairstyle. Carter, who spent eight years renting salon chairs and building a devoted fan base, jumped at the chance to open his own place—a small salon that didn't have a big factory feel, where the clients would feel like family. And when we asked about the salon's specialties, Carter responded, "As long as you have hair, we can do something." Though to be perfectly honest, we wouldn't be surprised if he could still figure something out, baldness notwithstanding. Every hair artist on staff is highly trained and able to handle a diverse range of hair types.
