More than 16 percent of Cook County residents experience food insecurity, according to data compiled by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2009, and in some communities more than 40 percent of people are uncertain where they will get their next meals. Partnering with a network of 650 pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters across Cook County, the Greater Chicago Food Depository collects donated and purchased food and distributes it to underserved families.
