Recently named a 2013 NEA Jazz Master, alto saxophonist "Sweet Papa Lou" Donaldson brings his famed quartet to the Blue Note. Donaldson is the real deal -- a disciple of Charlie Parker who recorded with Thelonious Monk, played with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers and helped create and build Blue Note Records. He went on to develop his own sound in the '70s, an influential combination of bebop, funk and soul that resulted in his signature tune "Blues Walk." He's joined by Akiko Tsuruga on Hammond B3 organ, guitarist Randy Johnston, and drummer Fukushi Tainaka.
