Scout Notes: When longtime Nashville restaurateur, Mathew Igwonobe, began dreaming up his latest restaurant, Aura, he knew two things: the menu would incorporate influences and recipes from around the world, and the atmosphere would be casual and comfortable. And that’s exactly what he’s managed to accomplish, upscale dining without the fuss. Yup, loosen those ties, folks. Located in Virago’s former home on Division Street, Aura serves lunch Monday through Friday and dinner nightly. Both menus (they’ll change seasonally) feature Asian, Latin and Southern influences and were created by Mathew and Executive Sous Chef Kevin Marron. With starters like crawfish potato skins, Florida alligator ribs and lavender goat cheese, we’d venture to say that Aura’s appetizer selection is one of the most diverse in Nashville. For lunch, we’re big fans of the lamb burger (with pan-fried eggs, avocado and grain mustard served on a focaccia bun) and highly recommend ordering a side of eggplant fries to go along with it. As far as dinner entrées go, the veal short ribs and the lobster tamale (Northern bean, roasted fennel, avocado corn relish, tarragon shallot essence) are tied for us. Just lookin’ for a cozy spot to enjoy happy hour? In addition to a full bar featuring plenty of specialty cocktails, local beers and wine on tap, Aura also offers a menu of small bites that can be ordered at the bar. Menu Highlights: Crawfish potato skins, $13 Grouper-Diver Scallops, $24 Turkey Breast Club, $8 Ginger Chocolate Cake, $10 Hours: Monday-Thursday, 11am to 10pm Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, 5 -11 p.m. Sunday, 5 - 10 p.m.
