She is the artistic director of ArabesqueDance Company & Orchestra and founder of the International Bellydance Conference of Canada. With 32 years of experience, she imparts the Arabesque signature system of learning Bellydance in all its facets in 60 cities on five continents. The Ontario Arts Council sponsored the development of the Arabesque Academy standardized curriculum. Many Arabesque students have gone on to open their own schools, create their own dance companies, and won a variety of international competitions. Creating fully rounded Bellydance and Arab Folkdance artists and teachers is why many of Canada's prominent Bellydance teachers and indeed Bellydancers from the world over receive their training at Arabesque Academy. "I have been taking Bellydance at Arabesque Academy since 2005 and I love it. My teachers are wonderful, strong, knowledgeable and approachable. Every year we get to see them dance at lots of different venues throughout the city and it is wonderful to see this beautiful art form on display with such talented dancers. Arabesque also offers a lot of great workshops with Yasmina Ramzy. I have taken a lot of them and Al Khaima is one of the best. The student Gala's, three times a year, are a blast and a great opportunity to get yourself out on stage and give it your all. A new floor is down for the larger studio and it really makes a difference, very smooth and easy on the feet. There are so many classes to choose from, the beginner levels right up to advanced as well as the drumming and specialty classes. Great value all in once place close to the subway."- Deborah S."Arabesque Academy is food for my soul. I've been taking classes here for the last 3 years and the instruction has helped me grow tremendously as a dancer and a person. One of the things I love about the studio is that it is so welcoming to everyone, no matter what your size, shape, age or orientation. At 57 years old, I find the work I do at the studio is helping me blossom as a mature woman. I get a terrific aerobic workout from the classes, and they keep me flexible, feeling good about my body and aware of how much inner beauty we all have. The teachers here are the best! You can find classes on every variety of belly dance from classical to tribal to latin and more. There are so many classes, most of them offered on a "drop-in" basis, that it is easy to fit several classes into a weekly schedule. I've found the atmosphere at the studio to be very warm--I've made lots of friends and the vibe here is supportive, not competitive. But you will be challenged by the instructors to meet your full potential as a dancer, and that's a good thing!"- Janet P."I've been very self-conscious about my ample physique for as long as I can remember so a few years ago, I decided to get involved in something that would give me a break from feeling bad about myself for at least an hour a week. I started bellydance class and I've enjoyed it more and more as I've progressed. What I like about Arabesque Academy: - The instructors at Arabesque are excellent, knowledgeable and approachable. They all have lots of experience as cabaret performers and as teachers.- Most classes are drop-in which is great if you don't like to be pinned down to a specific date and time every week.- There's a real diversity of dance classes to try, in addition to the different levels. Supplement the standard lessons with classes in tribal, belly hop, folklore, conditioning, props... Also, the standard classes let you explore different styles of traditional Middle Eastern dance and music like saidii, khaleeji and cabaret.- The student gala happens twice a year and it is very professionally put together. It's so much fun to get dressed up and show off your well-rehearsed moves in front of a supportive audience."- Andrea W.
