Afghan Kabob House Coupons and Deals
Description
Scout Notes: While we may not have a lot, er, any snow on the ground these days, we still get the chills when the temp dips low. That's when Arlington's Afghan Kabob House comes in. Already my go-to spot for my Central Asian favorites (and after traveling there a few years ago, I can tell you the kabob platters here are top-notch), now this low-key spot is my No. 1 soup spot. With four different flavors, including lentil, carrot, cream of spinach and Buffalo chicken, these made-from-scratch liquid meals are hearty and filling. "These are my family's recipes," said this restaurant's owner, Akbar Madany, who was born in Kabul. Which means none of these come from a can—these soups are all made the old-fashioned way. Chicken lovers will love the carrot, cream of spinach and the Buffalo chicken, which offers a bit of a kick with each bite. But my favorite was the lentil. Vegetarian-friendly, this bowl of awesomeness is packed full of healthful legume-based protein and homemade flavors. Even better, don't miss the Afghan naan bread that the soup comes with. Made right in front of you, these boat-like carbo-loads make the perfect utensil to sop up what your spoon can't reach. My motto? Leave no soup behind! You should adopt that motto, too, especially since you can try it out for free. Menu Highlights: Soups, $2.95 Combo Kabob, $12.95 Shepherd's Platter, $10.95 Open Face Falafel, $9.95 Afghan Style Gyro, $10.95 Hours: Sunday - Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday - Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 a.m.
