When it comes to healing one's worldly woes, some might resort to yoga, bubble baths or leaving their excess baggage on a therapist's couch. Us? Well, let's just say few things soothe the soul like a home-cooked meal. And that's exactly the kind of therapy owner Tamar is dishing out in the cozy confines of her brand-new Briarcliff eatery. Let's be honest: when it comes to curing what ails you, a glass of good wine and a plate of seared cheese tends to do the job, or at least put you on the right path. Tamar first fell in love with Mediterranean food over the course of many a meal shared with her best friend's Syrian family. (Call it educational experience.) "I know how good the food is supposed to be," she told us, pointing out dishes like curried shrimp on couscous, slow-cooked goat and pan-seared Halloumi cheese. Those are the menu items that are nearest and dearest to her heart (and to our tastebuds). And we can't talk about the food without mentioning the chef. After all, Food Therapy's menu of plates, both small and not-so-small, was a labor of love for Chef Hopeton, too. He's worked almost exclusively with Mediterranean food over the years, thanks to his appreciation for the region's from-scratch culinary philosophy. His creations, like that aforementioned pan-seared cheese, also pair quite well with the curative tonics coming from the bar. The Mediterranean Therapy (vodka, limoncello and pomegranate) and the VeeV Therapy Session (basil, cucumber, lemon, agave and VeeV acai liqueur) were both top-notch when paired with that seared cheese, slow-roasted lamb and a hookah (just for good measure). We're feeling restored already. Menu Highlights: Seared Halloumi Cheese, $5.50 Chicken and Rice Meatballs, $9 Curried Shrimp, $15 Roasted Lamb Chops, $21 Slow-Cooked Goat, $20 Hours: Monday - Friday, 11 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday & Sunday, 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
