Scout Notes: It just makes sense: of course Cameli's belongs in Little Five. Last month, the beloved local pizza institution brought their Monster Slices, perfect dough:cheese:sauce ratio, and legit Italian pasta creations to Atlanta's tattooed rebel-child neighborhood, and Little Five-goers couldn't be happier. Especially since there's a rooftop porch involved. Those Cameli brothers sure do know the key to our hearts. The original Cameli's became known for thin, fresh, tasty pies and slices, thanks to George mastering the art and science of pizza-making (we were serious about that golden ratio of dough, cheese, and sauce). And unlike many a pizzeria, Cameli's is equally beloved for its pastas and entrees as it is for its 14" Monster Slice, the result of Joe's culinary training in Italy (i.e., think more family meatball recipes; no bowls of flimsy noodles and red sauce). If you happen to remember the brothers' East Atlanta pasta restaurant from way-back-when, you'll be pleased (or super-stoked) to learn that they've resurrected some of their best creations from ye olde pasta days. If you haven't noticed, it's pretty clear that this awesome joint isn't just your average pizza shop (and if you need more evidence, look no further than the spicy homemade sausage, Alaskan baked salmon, Italian beef stew, and roasted half-chicken front-and-center on the entree menu). Oh, and that rooftop patio we mentioned? Roomy, partially covered, and decked out with a little landscaping, it's the perfect place to bask in the sun while tackling that Monster Slice... and, of course, an ideal vantage point for the always-entertaining people-watching in L5P. Add to that the free and impossibly easy parking (in the lot right next to the building), and the newly expanded beer list, and you've got yourself a perfect lunch break. Who's down for an afternoon pizza party? Menu Highlights: Italian Beef Stew, $13.95 Spicy Homemade Sausage, $13.50 Baked Alaskan Salmon Filet, $13.50 McLeod Nine Pizza, $9.25 (small) - $21.50 Smart Pie, $8.50 (small) - $20.25 Meats-a-Balls & Penne, $9.50 Hours: Monday - Saturday, 11:30 a.m. - 1 a.m. (Bar open until 2:30) Sunday, 11:30 a.m. - 12 a.m.
