In scenic Hapeville, we don't typically find a large selection of swanky, contemporary bistros with a penchant for wine tasting. But that's all changed with the opening of Volare Bistro right on a Central Avenue corner. "Volare," which is Italian for "to fly," pays homage to the city's deeply intertwined roots with the airport, as well as the profession of Michael, co-owner Charlotte's husband, who works at nearby Hartsfield-Jackson. When they relocated to ATL from the West coast two years ago, Charlotte wanted to get back to her passions: food, wine and hospitality. And alongside her family, she has successfully developed what will soon be a destination for the foodie and the wine aficionado alike. The ever-expanding vino collection currently features 31 options, and will soon grow to include wine flights, something that can't be very easily found outside the traffic-ridden realms of Midtown. And the menu? It's Mediterranean, modern and constantly evolving. Charlotte, who has dealt with food sensitivities herself, created a menu designed to accommodate as many food needs as possible. This means that nothing comes in prepared, and almost every item on the menu is either already gluten-free or may be easily adapted to fit those needs. And don't fret about having one of those special requests–to us, Volare Bistro feels like an extension of our home (if we had an excellently designed home), feeling comfortable and hospitable. And the local, organic produce and nitrate-free meats bursting from menu items like the Filet Rioja are insanely delicious reflections of all these characteristics. We can almost hear the whole town of Hapeville buzzing with excitement. Although, that might just be all the wine. Menu Highlights: Volare Signature Salad with Grilled Tiger Shrimp, $7 Roasted Mixed Olives, $5 Filet Rioja, $10 Pei Mussels, $8 Garlic Shrimp, $7 Hours: Monday - Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Closed Sunday
