Like love-struck school kids biking past our true love's house over and over, we've been oh-so-casually cruising back and forth past 798 Ponce for months now. Any day now, we thought while conspicuously angling for a glance inside, and Old Fourth Ward would get their very own taste of that delicious, downright addictive bubble tea. Well, adventurous sirs and madames, it's time to bust out the bubbly, 'cause we have some sweet news: intowners now have a bubble tea joint to call their own, no Buford Highway trekking required. If you weren't hanging out in Taiwan circa '88, you might be asking yourself: self, what is this bubble tea of which they speak? The long and short: a sweet, creamy, tea-based elixir containing floating tapioca pearls, which make for a delightfully curious sipping (and chewing) experience through those comically oversized straws. Since becoming a Huge Thing in the '80s and spreading westward to the US shortly thereafter, boba cafes (and their devout followers) have sprung up left and right in big cities. This, though, ain't just any ol' boba cafe, folks. Honey Bubble keeps it real with legit fresh milk (organic soy, too), teas brewed fresh each day, and good ingredients—a rarity among bubble tea shops, who often turn to artificial flavor concentrates and astronaut-worthy powdered milk instead. Here, they're mixing up the standby flavors like taro, lychee, lavender and honeydew, but also offering a few options more reminiscent of Western desserts—salted caramel, for example. Factor in the colorful macarons from Alon's and the sweet treats from Highland Bakery, and you've got all the fixins for one heck of a sweet tea party. And if you haven't yet acquired an affinity for tapioca, Honey Bubble has puh-lenty of other beverages to keep you busy: flakey ice slushies, fine loose teas, a rotating fair-trade coffee and a few unique options (see: the Brooklyn egg cream, a chocolate drink that involves neither eggs nor cream but is quite tasty). Add to that the chilled-out, lounge-y atmosphere, plentiful wi-fi, and—wait for it—ample free parking, and we're about ready to unofficially declare Honey Bubble our second office. (We get dibs on the big couch underneath the Bruce Lee movies.) Menu Highlights: Milk Bubble Tea, $ 4 (Medium) - $5 (Large) Snowcap Slushies, $ 4 (Medium) - $5 (Large) Brooklyn Egg Cream, $4 Bustelo Espresso Coffee, $3 Organic Fair-Trade Coffee, $3.50 (Medium) - $4.25 Hours: Mon. - Thurs., 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. Fri. & Sat., 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. Sun., 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.
